Passenger Trains > An Amtrak "Trifecta"...Date: 09/09/14 17:52 An Amtrak "Trifecta"... Author: aussiehinz With Amtrak Train #5's departure from Chicago set ahead from 2:00 to 2:50 PM to accommodate UP tie replacement work west of Denver, I had the unusual opportunity to watch three Amtrak long distance trains go by "MH" Tower within ten minutes this afternoon. First, #5 departed, passing at 2:54, followed four minutes later by inbound Train #6 at 2:58. Finally, #3 departed on time and went by at 3:04. Quite an impressive spate of activity!
Cheers, aussiehinz 1. #5, the westbound "California Zephyr" 2. #6, the eastbound "California Zephyr" 3. #3, the westbound "Southwest Chief" (behind P42 #1) Date: 09/09/14 19:59 Re: An Amtrak "Trifecta"... Date: 09/09/14 21:52 Re: An Amtrak "Trifecta"... Author: The_Chief_Way One thing that used to intrigue folks on T-O was why 5 & 6 used to run their two units back-to-back.
I don't recall anyone getting the straight poop on why that was; but in recent pictures it appears that they're back to elephant style. Date: 09/09/14 22:47 Re: An Amtrak "Trifecta"... Author: NGotwalt So did you have the 5-6-3 or did you box it? Great shots...

Yeah, I am one of them. Just as a matter of interest, it would be nice to know why they so consistently ran back-to-back on this train. And then why it was seemingly changed overnight recently back to elephant style. I always thought the back-to-back lashups looked good on the CZ. Date: 09/10/14 09:11 Re: An Amtrak "Trifecta"... SR Hmm.. I wonder if someone with sway (and a sense of aesthetics) just transferred from CHI to LAX? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/10/14 10:45 by BoilingMan. |
