That's sad, seems like Atlantic city's slowly dying a slow death!

Atlantic City's economy has been overdependent on casinos. When casinos began opening in other states such as Pennsylvania, there was less reason to go to Atlantic City for gambling.

actually lack of the betting Sports Book is what actually killed AC casinos ... that's why Vegas is king of the gambling centers ... the NJ legislators dropped the ball on that one by not allowing the sportsbook

and the local government never concentrated on the city as a whole and siphoned the money from the casinos into pet projects for special interests that never really developed the town into a true tourist destination just relying on the boardwalk and beaches but that's only 4 months out of the year ...

Hey RC drop a 10 spot on black and let it ride ... first time I was ever in Vegas I put a C-note on black and i let it ride and it came out 11 consecutive times before I picked up my money ... came out 6 more times after that ... I never saw anything like that before or after that in my entire life

Atlantic City is actually dying its second death. Without the referendum allowing casino gambling there that passed in 1976, its epitaph would have been written 30+ years ago. But it was never as hip as Las Vegas and now gambling in neighboring states is gutting its business.

Too bad the ACE train died off too. Back in early 1990's Amtrak bought the line and rebuilt it to class 4 rail and I rode it a few times with F40PH and 4 cars, AEM-7 from NY was cut off at 'shore' int.

Definitely agree that the pols used the casinos to keep the relatives employed. The city residents had a lot of stinking slums before the casinos, and still have lots.

The ACE train had good ridership on weekends, but ran a lot of very low ridership trips. The whole resort just died over the winter. By contrast, Las Vegas hosts a lot of conventions during its off-peak summer season.

The ACY airport never really gained traction, either.
