Passenger Trains > "AAPRCO Special @ Whiting IN..."

A 26 car (I think) eastbound extravaganza. Quite a sight in this day and age.

1. Passing under the iconic PRR signal bridge in Whiting as AMTK #371, the "Pere Marquette," from Grand Rapids, rolls west toward Chicago.

2. The eastbound AAPRCO Special on the first leg of its journey to Portland ME.

3. PV "Georgia 300" brings up the markers of this year's train.

Nice! Cool side by side Amtraks. Don't see a passenger train that long very often these days (not counting the Autotrain).

26 PV's. We stay overnight Cleveland NS West Park Industrial yard. Tomorrow night Binghamton NY. Just passed throught Bryan, OH.

What time are they planning to depart out of Cleveland, would like to catch them through Ashtabula and a little further east.TIA

Planned departure is 6:00 AM

Would anyone here or connected with AAPRCO have a projected return ARRIVAL time back in Chicago next week?

The top photo of the two Amtraks side by side is really neat.

I have been told that the AAPRCO special will run as the second section of the Lake Shore.

Oh, I get it, P42 #33 is pushing the Pere Marquette. I had to think about that one for a second. Great shots as usual!

I think the PV's will be dispersed on regular trains after the convention ends, so there will be no special train to be looking for.

Info for the three PVs associated with LARail (Tioga Pass, Pacific Sands, and Salisbury Beach): "After the conclusion of our convention activities at Portland, on Thursday morning September 25, The Pine Tree Limited will head west on Pan Am Railways to Worcester MA, where we will switch to CSX (former New York Central, Boston & Albany) for the final lap to Springfield MA, where the special train will terminate later that day." The LARail PVs are scheduled to return to LA on September 30 via the SW Chief, which means they will likely tag on to the Lake Shore Limited at Springfield on Friday 26 September or Saturday 27 September.

The info on LA Rail is out of date. The convention special will go from Portland to Boston and will split into an east and west section there. The east section will continue to South station for dispersal on regular trains. The west section will run as a second section of the Lakeshore, about 2 hours behind it, from Boston to Chicago overnight, with no stops. Cars will then disperse from Chicago with the LA Rail cars going out on the SW Chief on the 28th. Some cars will leave on the 27th.

Me thinks if the western return special is to operate as a second section a mere two hours behind the Lake Shore, you're soon gonna catch it!
