Passenger Trains > #49 down 2 hrs, 42 mins SOB to CHI

#49, which as of this writing, still has not arrived in Chicago. So far this train has lost aprox 2 hrs, 43 mins between South Bend and Chicago. This is in addition to the 6 hrs, 55 mins late upon departure South Bend. Amtrak now has an ETA of 9 hrs, 12 mins late into CUS.

Pitiful. NS should be held accountable for all the effects (monetary compensation to Amtrak for extra crew, fuel and passenger accommodations) of this delay.

I feel like I'm in Groundhog Day with all the Amtrak posts... Amtrak is late, NS is the devil and oh those poor soul's on board... We get it...

However unacceptable this is, we do have to remember that a good chunk of the delay was hitting a vehicle east of Cleveland.

Yeah but the snowball effect always sucks, especially with a freight railroad that can't put money into restoring track to ease congestion, like what UP tried to do back in 97 in Houston!

Rolled in at 8:10 p.m., 10 hrs 25 mins late and down 3 hr 30 min from SOB.
But earlier today, departing SOB 3 hours, 44 minutes before the Lake Shore, #29 lost "only" 23 minutes over the same stretch.

p.s. #48(13) has not left Chicago yet (it's nearly midnight)

I can assure you the NS people hate this just as much as you do. It took UP time to fix their problems as well. But fix it they did.
So will NS. As an old railroader once said, you can take out capacity in an afternoon but it takes years to rebuild.

Yeah but NS is able to do it in no time, UP it took almost 2 full years!
