I once saw a sleeping car attendant clean the toilet and then use the same rag to clean the sink! So obviously some additional training is needed!

And what does one do after isolating the passenger? Who should the train crew call? I thought this might be the first page of a multi-page memo, but then I saw that it is indeed marked page 1 of 1.

The fact remains that the changes are almost zero that anyone on Amtrak will have Ebola. I just hope people with the flu aren't persecuted.

Whole lot more people will die of the flu this season

If you are sick with flu you shouldn't travel unless necessary.

I agree a lot more people will die from different diseases than from Ebola....at least that is the general thought. I think what makes this disease so uncomfortable to the masses are it's new to the States, and generally there seems to be a lack of trust in our leaders as to whether they have it under control. With Ebola, it is untested waters here. I can understand the concerns of people who deal with the sick and their doubts whether management is doing all it can to protect them.

My concern is they keep telling us it is only spread through contact with body fluids, like HIV is. If so, then why are we isolating anyone with symptoms, and treating any confined space that person has been in as a hazmat scene? There is no such precaution with someone who is HIV positive. You're not going to get aids sitting on a plane with an HIV positive passenger. I fear it IS airborne but they don't want the country in a panic until they have to.

Unlike HIV, Someone with Ebola rapidly suffers diarrhea and coughs up blood. The distance is from the fact that they rapidly lose fluids due to the disease itself.

The fear mentality in high gear. Read the stats on hospital infections in the US and you might give up medical care.

Yeah I got the joy of getting MRSA from a hospital when I went in for a torn knee. Not fun. Oh as to Ebola... I actually changed my route to get to Miami from the Bay Area to a straight shot on the Zephyr instead of going down through dallas first. Figured why risk it if I don't have too. Been a crappy year in losing my Mom in April and Dog last Friday so my luck is bad. No reason to tempt luck again! Plus gives me an extra day to get to Miami to catch my cruise.

Interesting, if this is an employee memo, and is not a public information release, then why is it permitted to post such here?

There seem to be a lot of proprietary Amtrak memos posted on TO: I have long wondered about that.

No where does it say 'for limited distribution' or 'employees only, confidential' etc. Just a reminder on common sense hygiene, really.

AIDS is apparently pretty hard to catch. There are some rare ways perhaps to catch it but for the vast majority it seems to need direct blood-to-blood exposure. All body fluids of an ebola patient are dangerous and it seems they just need to be 'wet and somewhat fresh' to transmit it.

Exactly what part of EMPLOYEE SPECIAL ADVISORY makes it understood that it was also intended for general public access? If that was the case it could just as easily have been stated as such.

And unfortunately, lots of folks on cruise ships get very, very sick also.

And there is one ship now out (in the Gulf of Mexico?) that is being isolated because of a possible Ebola victim on board.

Avoid Dallas seems a bit of a stretch, since the Ebola virus that was through there last week is long dead by now, outside of a human or animal host.

Every single report and analysis from contagious disease specialists confirms that ebola is not spread by air. We have known about this virus for several decades and while it is very virulent once it enters the body, outside the host, it is very weak and easily destroyed with cleaning agents. The notion that it is airborne appear to be from sources that have something to gain by spreading fear. Be very wary of any news station or politician who peddles such nonsense. That said, virus can and do mutate. However, to date, there appears to be no evidence to indicate it has transitioned to an airborne pathogen. Health care workers who caught the disease probably because they did not follow, or were not given, proper instruction for handling waste or removing protective clothing. That is where the greatest danger lies in the transmission of this virus.

The thing in general that makes me sick is how paranoid certain people get when something like this happens and it doesn't take long for all hell to break loose!
