Passenger Trains > Salem, MA Rail Station to Open Oct. 24thDate: 10/23/14 03:17 Salem, MA Rail Station to Open Oct. 24th Author: mp16 The MBTA has announced that the new parking garage and station will be open for service on
Friday, October 24th, at 4 pm(convenient timing for the thousands who come to Salem for the Halloween celebrations). Parking spaces will be available for 714 cars and two garage elevators are available. Platforms are high level to provide better access to trains. Some work remains to be completed such as the waiting room but at least people will now have a garage to use and be able to board trains with greater ease. Unfortunately, the architectural style of the garage does not blend in with the traditional architecture of a city first settled in the 1620's. The rail stop is convenient for tourists who wish to visit the famous Peabody-Essex Museum which is no more than a 15 minute walk from the station. One train from Rockport to Boston has been delayed this morning because of downed trees blocking the tracks at Gloucester. Lots of heavy rain last night and the storm continues this morning Date: 10/23/14 06:42 Re: Salem, MA Rail Station to Open Oct. 24th Author: RFandPFan Talk about changes over the years! Here's the evolution of the Salem Depot...
