Amtrak Vet's leads 50 east on the Buckingham Branch RR
Author: hdralleiii

Yesterday I was driving south to pickup my son near Roanoke, VA and a friend sent a message that Amtrak unit #42 (Vet's Unit) was leading PO50 eastbound near Staunton. Timing was near perfect as I jumped off the interstate, he was departing the station stop downtown. After about a 2 minute wait, 42 popped into the sun behind the Augusta Co-op facility. Shots are just west of I-81 near the "Brand" siding.

Enjoy!

Hank

Two locos on the bird yesterday? Are there private cars to ferry or perhaps some other reason two locomotives were on point?

Not sure why 42 was added in Huntington. It was assigned to the New River excursion train but was swapped out for some reason. Consist was 7 cars. Perhaps trailing unit had issues although I think 50 left Chicago with 2 units if they dropped a replacement for New River Train. May have added second to keep HEP and air up while making the 42 swap.

And they could be just moving 42 to another special event too.

The Amtrash exhibit train with P#822 and F#406 will be on the head end of #51 leaving DC tomorrow and I'd be safe to say P#42 will be the leader.
