Thx Posted from iPhone Date: 11/19/14 20:03 Re: Philmont Boy Scout camp Author: ut-1 Raton, travelled there 6 times with my Troop via Amtrak.
Date: 11/19/14 20:09 Re: Philmont Boy Scout camp Author: CPRR Thank you. How did you get from raton to the camp?

I understand they add an extra coach for those two months because of the scouts. I've also seen scouts on the Mo River Runner going between STL and KCY to pick up the SW Chief. Oh, and I've not had any problems with the scouts either.

This Lifer-for-Life went to Philmont in 1972. Tried to take the train but couldn't make it work. Our troop rode the bus instead from Tallahassee, FL out here. After a week or so of trekking through the mountains or northern New Mexico, a nice dinner of meat and potatoes looked wonderful to them. They ate heartily.....

Awesome trip, we were on board with about 100 of our best friends. The Scouts loading and unloading of the baggage car at Raton is impressive. Really cuts the dwell time down.

And this Eagle Scout (and his Eagle Scout dad) still have our Philmont patches to wear in our current Scouting roles. That was one heck of a trip, I hope I get to take my boys some day.

Date: 11/20/14 19:11 Re: Philmont Boy Scout camp Author: jbwest I heard that the scouts to and from Philmont make Raton one of the busier stops on the Amtrak system.
JBWX Date: 11/20/14 22:37 Re: Philmont Boy Scout camp Author: The_Chief_Way Maybe during the few weeks that Philmont is open Raton would be one of the
busiest stops on the SW Chief route only. Date: 11/23/14 00:26 Re: Philmont Boy Scout camp Author: Abqfoamer Scouts can be seen on the platform during summer SWC stops in Abq.
