Dome Car view on #4, sort of
Author: mp51w

Substitute sleeper for the transition car on the Southwest Chief arriving Chicago today.
1.) West Ethel
2.) East Ethel where they top the ridge
3.) Fort Madison, IA and you will notice the swing bridge is just closing in time.

It's really fun when that happens. I had the same view on the Capitol a few months ago. I didn't want to stay in my room.

I added in Missouri for the location of Ethel. I was also lucky that the window was clean, often it is not,
usually being subject to bugs, exhaust, etc..
The hilly area between Elmer and Bucklin is pretty scenic and very curvy. No 90mph running here, although
after you come over the ridge at Ethel heading East it's a real drag strip! Adding another vantage shot of the
Mississippi River bridge crossing. I've crossed it many times, and it's always a treat. Such a unique bridge with the two lane
upper deck roadway.

Ex-Santa Fe Amtrak #1855. You can still see the Santa Fe lettering if the light is just right.

Great photos, but I'm confused. What "substitute sleeper" or transition car has a forward-facing second-story window?
