Passenger Trains > Altenheim Sub: B&OCT vs CSX milepostsDate: 11/24/14 04:38 Altenheim Sub: B&OCT vs CSX mileposts Author: bertlhf Altenheim Sub: B&OCT vs CSX mileposts
From a 1953 timetable: 0.0 Chicago Gr.C.Sta. 4.2 Rockwell St. 10.9 Madison St. 11.0 Forest Park, End Sub From a 1987 CSX timetable: 29.8 Rockwell St. 37.4 Madison St. What explains the relatively large Rockwell St. to Madison St. distance difference: 6.7 vs 7.6 miles? Bert Fitié Den Haag, Nederland Date: 11/24/14 09:30 Re: Altenheim Sub: B&OCT vs CSX mileposts Author: eee Guessing that the 1953 Madison St. milepost used the original route from Cicero via the shops, which was longer, and the more recent version recalculated after the original route was abandoned.

I said it backwards... bertlhf Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The 1953 route is shorter (6.7) than the longer > 1987 route (7.6) > > bertlhf Date: 11/24/14 11:18 Re: Altenheim Sub: B&OCT vs CSX mileposts Author: dispr I suspect that the locations have moved a little bit. Madison Street is where the BOCT connects to the former SOO/WC today. Years ago, there was also a connection to the CGW in this same area.

Originally, there was a station at Forest Park, just west of Madison. There was a line change in the 50s for the removal of the L and the construction of the Eisenhower (nee Congress Street) Expressway. The track west of Central Ave was relocated to the expressway right of way, as was the L. CGW Jct (KC tower) was rearranged for B&OCT to fly over the L instead of crossing at grade. That is probably the source of the difference. TAW |
