Passenger Trains > Amtrak 42 and 43 todayDate: 01/19/15 17:55 Amtrak 42 and 43 today Author: dharmadrummer Amtrak can't seem to catch a break today between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. Apparently 514, leading 42, had some engine trouble on the west slope and had to have helpers pull it to Harrisburg. I didn't believe the post I saw about helpers on an Amtrak train until I went trackside. I also just heard from someone that Amtrak 43 has stuck a person near Irwin, PA, stopping rail traffic in the area.

Andy Date: 01/20/15 04:50 Re: Amtrak 42 and 43 today Author: resqjon 514 had some issues while they were trying to turn the train in Pittsburgh on Sunday night, so they ordered some NS power for #42 to play it safe. The NS power was added to the train in Pittsburgh overnight. Had train #30 been running with the normal consist of 2 units, they could have stolen one of those. But that is not an option right now.
Jon Date: 01/21/15 08:59 Re: Amtrak 42 and 43 today Author: RNinRVR The fact that is a standard 2 unit SD40E helper set explains why 2 engines. They usually do not like to break them apart except for maintenance.
