Passenger Trains > Rental cars and hotels in Chicago

Are there any reasonable car rental options near Chicago Union Station late on a Saturday afternoon?

It looks like Hertz in the station closes at 2pm on Saturday and nothing much nearby is open after 4.  

Also, are there any decent hotels nearby that won't break the bank?  

Having grown up in the Chicago area, it seems strange to be asking these questions, but I've never stayed overnight downtown and never rented a car in the Loop.

There is a Budget about a mile from Union Station that is even open on Sunday. That is where I rented for last years trip. Grabbed a cab over to it, a fairly cheap trip.
