Passenger Trains > Required Amtrak Train SetsDate: 03/27/15 21:39 Required Amtrak Train Sets Author: northridgeswitcher Just keeping current what are the current requirements for the following trains in total number of train sets (I know #14/11 require 4)
8/7 (is Amtrak still using a extra set in Sea/PDX?) 6/5 4/3 2/1 22/21 Thank you. Northridge Switcher Date: 03/27/15 22:16 Re: Required Amtrak Train Sets Author: R30A If I recall correctly:
1/2 is 3 (although the current schedule is designed to be doable with 2) 3/4 is 5 5/6 is 6 7/8 was 5, became 6, not sure what it is now. Don't remember what 21/22 is, but it does interline with 58/59. Date: 03/28/15 07:54 Re: Required Amtrak Train Sets Author: northridgeswitcher R30A thank you...
Northridge Switcher Date: 03/28/15 20:06 Re: Required Amtrak Train Sets Author: jp1822 When Amtrak feels it no longer needs the sixth train set for the Empire a Builder, it would be nice if Amtrak restored the Cardinal to a Superliner train set operating NYC to Chicago. BUT the key is to make sure a Sightseer Lounge is used on the route and advertised as such for the great scenery. Thus an additional Sughtseer Lounge and Diner or CCC would have to be added in.
I think the ridership gains by making this train a Superliner train set WITH Sightseer Lounge and Cross Country Cafe would be greater than its current ridership it has on the NEC. The train could easily have a connecting NEC train..... This then frees up two Viewliners - perfect for restoration of sleeper service on trains 66/67. EDIT: should read that with Superliner the train would operate from Washington DC to Chicago. Cross platform change required for connecting train on the corridor. Second paragraph assumes terminus of Washington DC, but I didn't state that as such....Sorry! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/29/15 05:30 by jp1822. You couldnt get Superliners on much of the NEC. The cars for too high. Amtrak operated the Cardinal with Superliners once before and can do it again! Sorry - I meant to say Washington DC as the terminus, not NYC. Cross platform change required in Washington DC for those using the corridor.... |
