Citisprinters at Mt. Joy
Author: JJSmith

Certain evenings of the week take me to Mt. Joy where my daughters have team practice.  While waiting I will usually check out the passing Keystone Service trains as they visit Mt. Joy within minutes of each other at the top of the hour.  I have not seen any of the new citisprinter motors on the Keystone Line until today when there was on on each train.  I managed to capture the westbound train with my cell phone.  Soon enough, I will be saying that I never see the AEM-7's any more.

Agree, but I don't think any of the new CitiSprinters have the roof shrounds bolted on.

At least two of the 600s appear to be in the Keystone pool, joining the ratty looked AEM-7 units. If I get down to the NEC tomorrow, I'll see if I can log the #s

There are no roof shrouds.  Never in the deign, what you see is what they intended.

Thanks, I've never seen a shroud. But there is a long row of protruding bolts on either side of the top line, where a shroud would be. It shows up in most pictures, and in the Joe Boardman video of the acceptance in California.  I wonder why Siemens would install 20 bolts without an apparent purpose?  If nothing else, they would increase wind resistance at high speeds.

What makes you think the bolts are there for no reason?  Do you really think they would drill holes and put bolts in them just because they had nothing else to do?    I seriuously doubt they would do that when it was pretty obvious that no shrouds were going to be applied.  Do you think that maybe there is something inside the engine that those bolts might be there for?
