It connects with he Texas Eagle In San Antonio.  Train 21 arrived in San Antonio 8 or so hours late Sunday morning, actually Saturday evening's train.  The Sunset had to wait.

I am going on Amtrak 1 in June I don't want to getting into LAX, Ca 8 hours late I got plane to catch to Las Vegas, NV. Why don't  Amtrak let Eagle people fly to La instead of letting the Sunset Limited be 8 hours late??

I can think of several reasons.
1. There are people who just won't fly, I'm one of them.
2. Some people have needs that can't be accommodated on a commercial flight.
3. Not everyone is going to a stop where there is air service.

During irregular operations such as this, Amtrak is usually flexible about accommodating affected passengers. You just need to firmly state what you want from the situation. In this case, you would ask Amtrak to refund your travel from San Antonio to Los Angeles, thereby allowing you to book a flight. If you run into resistance, escalate until you get to "Yes."

To add to this, when I last rode the eastbound Sunset Ltd. in the per-Katrina era from Orlando, I decided to detrain from my sleeper at San Antonio as we were running 12 hours late due to a freight derailment west of Houston (line was blocked for that length of time- we were not rerouted). I explained my circumstances to the Chief of On Board Services and sleeping car attendant. I was give a refund for the San Antonio-LA segment. That just about paid for my one-way last minute flight on Southwest Airlines from San Antonio to LA. I would have stayed with the train- but would have been late to work...

Railcity, that type of attitude really stinks, and it sucks there's other people I've seen when I go an wait for No. 3 here in Flagstaff and all they do is expect this and that because of some "Invconvinience!" I've been through the good and the bad on my trips on Amtrak and always lived with it, especially when the reason is obvious on why the train's late and all that! Just enjoy your vacation and quit being one of those passengers that expect a good run all the time!

I should have Southwest Airlines on speed-dial if i need too. I have family fly in from Pittsburgh, Pa meeting me in Vegas for 4 nights. I hoped for best for my big trip in June.
