Passenger Trains > #6/28 (I think) in western Colorado

Appears to be near Debeque, closing in on Glenwood Springs, 6:51 late. #5/27 is sitting in Grand Junction where it's been since about 9:15 this morning.

Anybody got an update as to what is really on, when, and where re 5 and 6 going forward??

They axed track a train on web site, so who knows where anything is anymore

I think it's waiting for the buses that left Emeryville this morning, enroute through intermediate stops.

They did no such thing..

So people on board westbound are waiting in Grand Junction (where it was just shy of 100° today)? Or did they get bussed earlier? And where's the train? It was on the asm site all day but it's gone now (7:45 MDT).

I'd sure hate to be the people charged with with putting this schedule/equipment/route puzzle back together!

Most likely its passengers are on buses heading west, or they were, and are home or at their destination by now.

The train at Grand Jct. awaits the eastbound passengers who are enjoying their wonderful bus ride across half the train's route, having enjoyed the passage over the Sierra from I-80 instead of from a train window.

It's confusing to be sure.  As far as I can make out:

#5(25) - first train affected by the washout at Melrose, IA - arrived Emeryville 12 hrs 20 mins late at 0430 on the 28th, detoured via UP Chicago - Omaha
#5(26) is still enroute expected Emeryville at 0249 on the 30th (tomorrow), 34 hrs 39 mins late
#5(27) disappeared from the status systems, may have turned for 6(28) at Grand Junction, CO [updated:  will turn for 6(1-jul)]
#5(28) cancelled from Chicago to Emeryville
#5(29) was 1 hr 14 mins late out of Ottumwa earlier this evening and is being delayed further in the vicinity of the Melrose washout.

#6(23) - first train affected by the washout - detoured via UP Omaha to Chicago, arrival time at Chicago unknown
#6(24) - detoured via UP, arrival time at Chicago unknown
#6(25) - arr Chicago 2150 on Sunday, 6/28, 31 hrs late - this is the train that was "abandoned" at Osceola, IA except for the PV passengers
#6(26) - detoured via UP, arrival time at Chicago unknown
#6(27) - detoured via UP, estimated arrival time at Chicago unknown (still enroute at this time)
#6(28) - enroute approaching Granby, CO, estimated 7 hrs 33 mins late.  Turned from 5(27) at Grand Junction, CO. [update:  operated over entire route]
#6(29) - cancelled Emeryville to Chicago

Then:

5(25) should turn to 6(30) [update:  turned to 6(28)]
5(26) should turn to 6(1) [update:  turned to 6(30) - 6(1) will not operate EMY to GJT]
5(29) should turn to 6(2) and we're back to normal at Emeryville

All #6 trains arrived Chicago in time to turn for next day's #5 except #6(25) due here on the 27th for #5(28), resulting in cancellation of the latter.  But it did eventually arrive, giving Chicago the extra set needed to cover the cancelled #6(29) that won't be arrivng here on July 1.

I think . . .

(though obviously, from GenePoon's post below, I thought wrongly and 6/28 did operate through rather than short turn)

6(28) operated from Emeryville, departing nearly 7 hrs. late.  It went through 
Grand Junction over five hours ago.  Lowwater correctly identified it.

#6 (28) left from Emeryville 7 hours late being turned from #5(25) which was 12 hours late, it has been running about 7-8 hours late ever since (my wife and son are on it).   I think #6 (29) is going to start from Grand Junciton today.

Turns at Emeryville/Oakland (and Grand Jct.):

5(25) > 6(28)
           6(29) cancelled in its entirety
5(26) > 6(30)
5(27) > 6(1)  turn at GJT
5(28)   cancelled
5(29) > 6(2)
5(30) > 6(3)

I think that works.  My head hurts, thinking about it.

Yesterday, 5(30) was blocked for sale west from Grand Jct., suggesting another short turn.  But
today, that block has been lifted.
