Area officials fight for scenic railroad
Author: MartyBernard

"UTICA — Assemblyman Anthony J. Brindisi and Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. are teaming with local railroad officials on a two-pronged attack to keep the Adirondack Scenic Railroad operating at its full potential.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation and the State department of Transportation are proposing to end the railroad line in Tupper Lake. Brindisi, Picente and others want the line to continue to Lake Placid and realize the full earnings and job opportunities afforded by the longer rail line."

I thought this was decided that the track was to be ripped up for a trail.

Those who drive BMWs from many miles away to walk a short distance on the trail also have the money to buy legislators.

The above mentioned Legislator apparantly didn't get bought off. King Andrew evidently has been.

Its sad to say in todays times that the majority have forgotten what helped build America to what it is now.
Although some efforts of this type although with different agendas are weak and have little backing this seems to be a good solid idea, not many in todays era have the same interest as most all here on TOs do so of course they don't want those nasty stinky railroads being anywhere near their snobby puckered up hineys.
This will be interesting but as one said it will be a long fight. I hope they can come to an agreement allowing the railroad to proceed on.
