Amtrak train #80
Author: amanwtf

Amtrak train #80 has been sitting at Selma North Carolina since 1055am today due to southbound CSX Q401 running a stop signal and tearing out the trailing point switch at North Selma North Carolina.

Moving after a 4-hour delay. 90 delayed as well. Looks like 92 passed through just before it happened.

Let's think about this for a moment.

Was Train 80 at Selma station, with its connecting track between the east-west NS line and the north-south CSX line?  Looking at Google Maps, the connecting track ties into CSX Track 1 north of Selma station.  From reading what amanwtf wrote, it sounds as if the railroad was lined for Train 80 to move from NS to the station stop at Selma, then to CSX Track 1, then north about a half-mile to North Selma interlocking and cross over to Track 2, and that southbound CSX 401 ran the Stop Signal on Track 1 at North Selma and ran through the trailing-point crossover.

So it could have been a head-on or a sideswipe.  Is that right?

Head-on. You got it.

Now the question is,  would have PTC prevented a "head on" ?
