I'm not a big light-rail design fan, most are too utilitarian or downright ugly, but these actually have a pleasant personality that I can't quite put my finger on. Anyway, they are more attractive than most, and the short-center-with-pantograph articulation is interesting. Thumbs up! === === = === JLH

It would be great if Miami took after Portland's example of fine public transit.

Great pictures Chris.  I enjoy riding in the new Type 5s...like the windows and seating.  Yes, 9/12/2015, the grand opening of the Orange line is headed for a BIG deal.  Today, we got the MAX light rail history exhibit installed at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center.... Arlen

These look a lot like the Trax cars in Salt Lake. I know those are Siemens, but what type?

Portland sure has a nice system.

Chris, the first clue I picked up on in your pix was
the B-end of the car also has no headlight.

LRV designers are bound and determined to hide the wheels!  I just think that looks dorky with the full skirts.  Does the public really care?

Less chance for something to get under the wheels;  streetcar wheels aren't much to look at anyhow

I doubt if the general transit riding public cares about LRV aesthetics.  If the cars are reliable, fast enough to keep the schedule and easy to board, looks are way down the list of priorities. Here in the LA area, some of the transit buses have "wheel skirts" over the rear wheels, leading one observer to comment that this was an attempt to fool the public into equating them with modern streetcars. 

I noticed that the new cars appear to run in "married pairs" like many rapid transit cars.  Does any other "light rail" system use back to back single ended cars like this?

I think several transit agencies have seen injuries and fatalities involving people getting under those wheels, especially articulated busses around corners.  I bet you'll see more of those skirts everywhere.

Article in the Saturday (early Sunday) edition of the Oregonian was an arguement to convert all the MAX lines to buses!  Buses are better the author pronounces!  Sounds like a GM or Ford Salesman of the 1930s/40s/50s!  I'll try to add a link.
