Amtrak/San Diego/Surfliner Problems
Author: bnsfdevore

There's a Surfliner stopped at mp259.0. South of cp Elvira. Cab car side door open. Crew out. Loco is running.
Now a sb Amtrak has hooked up to it and looks to be pushing it back to CP Morena. Double trackage there.
Update: Both trains are tied together and are heading out of San Diego as of 12 noon.
Lucky for Amtrak, rescue train was double headed.

It looks like it's time to build a service facility down here in San Diego. Over the last several months there has been a number of breakdowns here. Besides when the trough tracks ever gets built at Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal San Diego would be a better start point for the Pacific Surfliner anyways.

Sure, provide a way to fund it and I'm sure Amtrak would build it.

State of California has been working on a service facility  for a great number of years.  2 problems,  Where does it go in the high value property of San Diego and who pays for it.

Old "Five year plans" show this desire.
