Passenger Trains > LAAAAAATE #4 in Kansas today

Running just over 8 1/2 hours late, an extended-length Southwest Chief rolls east through Lawrence, KS Sunday afternoon behind the BNSF 4497.  The Dash-9 was put onto the train at Peach Springs, AZ, while the Horizon fleet cars up front are just deadheading from LA to Beech Grove.  

These sorts of excessively late Chiefs must be terrible for the passengers and crew, but they're great for us railfans, allowing for rare daylight views of the train.

Here it is half hour earlier turning the corner by the BNSF passenger car shops.

Looks like the BNSF 4497, as a "venomous rattler" has this "snake" in tow with its one nostril and ditch light/hand rail fangs showing.
