A few NEC Shots from today
Author: ns2557

Had some time this afternoon to check out the Corridor at Elkton Md.  In the 2 hrs I was there, trains were pretty much evenly split btwn NB & SB, plus in the mix a surprise.

Shot 1  NB Acela Express, I believe this is the nmbr 2170, in the Amtrk Schedule. Passing me here at MP 41 NB at 1607.

Shot 2  SB at 1630. This apperas to be the Crescent from what I can tell. 9 Cars with a baggage/2 Viewliners? an older car about mid train and then what I call tyhe standard Amtrak cars behind.

Shot 3.. This was the surprise. A NB NS Oil Train at around 1535 or so. Making about 15mph as it went past my spot.  The LSL was working, as the "Light" on the cab side was lit up.

Couple of observations here.  The Acelas didn't appear to be running quite as quick as those lead by the new ACS64's. Do they have a Restriction on them?  And in regards to the NS Oil Train, I would think this one came off the Port Road at Perryvile Md then north. Believe this one might have been headed for Bear Del, which is not to far north from my vantage point in these shots.

Thanks for looking and any responses.  All in all not a bad 2 hours or so.     Ya'll take care.   Ben

older car mid train would be the diner serving as the border between the sleepers forward and the coaches aft

Always nice to see the corridor, and the long distance train with the 600 is great!

I believe that's 135 mph territory for Acela Express, with a 130 mph curve north of I-95, and Amfleet/Viewliners and Sprinters are limited to 125 mph.

More than likely, the Star train 91.Both the Crescent and Meteor leave in the
late evening. Both 19 and 97 have three sleepers.

Uncle Joe,. I still believe it is the Crescent. The SB Star, leaves Wilmington at 1302. This was at 1630 here in Elkton, and the closest one I can find was the Crescent which left Wilmington at 1609. Given, where I was at, that would make it almost On Time thru here.  Doesn't the Crescent pick up other cars at Union Station in DC?..Ben
