Passenger Trains > Thansgiving holiday scheduleDate: 11/22/15 22:22 Thansgiving holiday schedule Author: pennsy3750 I was just taking a look at the Northeast Corridor Thanksgiving weekend schedule, as I was curious about the number of holiday extras that will run.
Some of them are labelled as "Northeast Corridor Extra" and a few are called "Holiday Extra" - is there a difference between the two? If so, what is it? Just a subtle way of signifying which trains will use borrowed commuter equipment? Date: 11/22/15 22:55 Re: Thansgiving holiday schedule Author: sums007 If you go to the "buy tickets" function on the website, it clearly states that the trains in the 1000 series [1063] use commuter equipment. There is also a link
that will take you to an explanation of what commuter equipment is like. Date: 11/23/15 18:56 Re: Thanksgiving holiday schedule Author: tq-07fan Here are the schedules with added trains. Looks like only the NEC will see commuter equipment but several extra trains added in the Michigan, Illinois and Surfliner markets.

I saw it but certainly had no way of taking a picture. At least Amtrak is using commuter stuff on the NEC for some extra trains on Sunday though. Hopefully it leads to more. Jim Date: 11/26/15 20:12 Re: Thanksgiving holiday schedule Author: jp1822 I notice there was no extra trains in the Pacific Northwest? I thought there were extras last year even after additional equipment came online to increase capacity and expand schedules in general.
Course extras come and go. There used to be extras even on the Empire Corridor to upstate NY and just to Albany. But that is no more........ Date: 11/26/15 21:19 Re: Thanksgiving holiday schedule Author: bigjim4life So then if we wanted to catch a couple of the "commuter" trains on the NEC, then the "Holiday Extras" are the ones to look out for, yes?
