Passenger Trains > Amtrak 5 delayedDate: 04/19/16 12:28 Amtrak 5 delayed Author: hoghead22 Amtrak 5 left Denver only minutes late, but sat at Plainview until nearly 1:00 p.m. before being released to proceed westward. Hulcher was called out about 11:00 p.m. last night for one car derailed between Crescent and Pinecliff (rough area to reach), were finished by 9:00 a.m. today. Suspect a rock slide hit freight train. But why wasn't No. 5 detoured through Wyo.?

I'll answer your question with a question. Does this train get a new engineer at Green River, WY when it's on the detour? If so, perhaps the notice was too short to get one there to do the relief. If it was just one car on the ground and with clean-up expected to take a few hours, better to take a 5-hour hit because that's probably what the end result would be anyway with a detour on a hour's notice.
