Passenger Trains > TXEagle detours offer rare mileage opportunitiesDate: 05/23/16 20:28 TXEagle detours offer rare mileage opportunities Author: GenePoon Texas Eagle detours offer rare mileage opportunities
Train 21 (ONLY) will operate St. Louis to Poplar Bluff via the UP Chester Sub (via Illmo, following the Mississippi River) DAILY, from May 26 to June 16. Train 22 is NOT affected by this detour. Trains 21 AND 22 will operate on the ex-C&EI (via Villa Grove), between Chicago and St. Louis, on June 2 and 3 ONLY. This is due to continued work on the Illinois High-Speed Project south of Springfield on the ex-GM&O line. Should the UP finish the work early, this could change with little to no prior notice. I guess I understand being able to say you've "covered the territory" but if you can't enjoy the scenery, what's the use??? Unless you end up on some very late trains, there are segments of the route that you never see in daylight. But it still counts. Even if you are in a casket in one of their new shiny expensive baggage cars, you've covered the track. That's the point. I even know some who's mileage "expires" if they don't cover the segment of track every so many years. Good grief. So no, I'm definitely not a mileage snob.
