Passenger Trains > DARTing around Dallas + old Amtrak carDate: 05/27/16 23:44 DARTing around Dallas + old Amtrak car Author: casco17 Last Sunday I explored DART's Orange Line (west part) and rode the Green Line (north part) with a friend. The Orange Line now links DFW airport with downtown Dallas; it largely follows a new right of way. Sundays had light passenger counts and it ran with single cars. Some pics:
1. Belt Line station. This is the first station after DFW; free parking 2. DFW station. It is near the north end of the airport. 3. Future wye tracks, for a west or northwest extension? These wye tracks are near the DFW north exit toll booths. There were also wye tracks over near Esters Blvd. Date: 05/27/16 23:53 Re: DARTing around Dallas + old Amtrak car Author: casco17 The Green Line largely follows a former Katy line northwest from Dallas, with long segments of elevated right of way. It ran 2-car trains on Sunday. Parts of the old freight line are still in service by shortlines, not UP.
1. A train moves from the layover track to the Victory station. The tracks at left are ex-Rock Island used by the Trinity Railway Express [and now Amtrak], between Dallas and Ft Worth. 2. The wye with the Orange Line, with a single car Orange Line train in the distance 3. The end of track at North Carrollton. There is a short siding with no catenary, possibly for maintenance equipment. The crossing gates in the background are for a separate diesel-powered commuter service to Denton that uses the ex-Katy right of way. From this distance it appeared to be in decent shape.
