Passenger Trains > Amtrak Leaves San Lucas BehindDate: 06/02/16 23:36 Amtrak Leaves San Lucas Behind Author: walstib With San Lucas safely in the rearview mirror, Amtrak 14 rolls past Milepost 168 as it charges uphill on its way north last week.
King City is just ahead, and the next stop, Salinas, is about an hour away. Date: 06/03/16 07:19 Re: Amtrak Leaves San Lucas Behind Author: photobob You have the Coast Line down to a science. Your coast photos are outstanding.

I you can imagine the Beets right there.... Not much has changed. Sphogger Date: 06/03/16 12:17 Re: Amtrak Leaves San Lucas Behind Author: Geodyssey Nice photo.
Date: 06/05/16 00:39 Re: Amtrak Leaves San Lucas Behind Author: DNRY122 Back in 1959, before the 101 freeway/expressway between San Miguel and King City was completed, 101 was an old, two-lane highway that was not well maintained. The section in San Luis Obispo County was four lanes divided, but when you crossed into Monterey County, where San Lucas is, it was like San Luis Obispo County had clout and Monterey didn't. Back then, there was a Top Ten instrumental record by Duane Eddy titled Forty Miles of Bad Road, and the locals figure it was inspired by US 101 south of King City.
