Hot Summer Night - Soledad Canyon Fire

Kudos to the firefighters trying to keep the Soledad Canyon (CA) Fire contained and away from Metrolink's ROW!

Images taken last night near Tunnel #19 I believe.

I'll second what railwaybaron already stated.

In addition, what was Metrolink thinking in running that train through the area?

I'm guessing it was the last train through that area...

Fire has passed through the area now. If the tracks are not damaged the "Prison Visitor Express" can run this weekend.

Amazing photos.  Agreed, #1 is one of the most dramatic rail photos I've ever seen!

No problem.  The night vision of the camera probably exaggerates the size of the flames.  Safe to pass by.

The one out at Lancaster?
Didn't know it had a name. Cute.

Actually the images don't do the fire justice. I had to use ISO 3200 to get the darker areas to show up so the flames in some of the images look blown out. We were quite a ways away from the fire but we could definitely feel the intense heat from it. After the train passed the fire grew and worked its way right to the edge of the ties. Metrolink crews had two 1500 gallon tank trucks constantly wetting down the ROW and bridge. One more train moved through this area a few hours later and the fire had died down significantly.

That's why the Landcaster trains run even on holidays when the rest of the system is shut down.

Awesome sights!    The news at 11 last night showed a live view of that train moving with a high-railer leading the way.   Flames were all around.

There goes my old territory.
You have some awesome photos there, is it getting near the Polsa Rosa Ranch area yet?

Amazing image(s), I agree - though, I too wonder how it is that passenger trains
were running through - over abundance of caution I thought was the norm today.

Smoky The Bear says, When shooting raging forest wildfires, shoot at ISO 3200.

Ironically, there were felons putting out the fire right next to the felony flier.
