Updates will be provided. This followed advisories advising of delays to specific trains due to "switch problems." Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/27/16 15:43 by GenePoon. Date: 07/27/16 16:02 Re: And now...problems at CHICAGO Union Station' Author: kevink I can laugh cuz' I'm currently sitting by the pool on vacation instead of sitting on Metra BNSF train 1261 like I usually am this time of day.
Seriously this is the third ot fourth time in the last couple of months that switching/signal issues have snafu'ed the evening rush. Years ago, there would be guys out in the yards throwing switches. Now, it's all electrical from a central location. Could failure of that system be the problem?

Was always run from a central location, just a different one with older technology: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3731318,3731318#3731318 TAW Date: 07/27/16 18:14 Re: And now...problems at CHICAGO Union Station Author: dispr When I worked at Amtrak in the late 80's and early 90's, we would loose the "air" and all the switches would pop open and nothing could move, since the air switches can't be operated by hand - unless each one was spiked.and clamped...you waited until the air plant was fixed or they found and engine to hook up and pump the air...signal and switch failures are not new or limited to Amtrak.
