NO!

"LizardNM" is the BNSF-UP interchange in El Paso, where the train is supposed
to be at 1209PM.

Actual for 943(6), running via BNSF:

Albuquerque  Departed 534a, 4 min late
Belen (SCHEDULED) 630am
El Paso (SCHEDULED) arrive 1215pm.

Now, get out to trackside!

UPDATE: El Paso Arrived 141pm, 1 hr 26 min late

Sorry Gene but I can't seem to reconcile Lizzard (m.p. 1298.2 Lordsburg Sub.) with any connection to BNSF. My confuson is now showing . . .

edit:

I guess Lizzard (instead of Santa Theresa) is the NM crew call point.

I'm puzzled, too, now that you mention it.  Lizard is just east of UP's El Paso area fueling facility which is in NM.

The BNSF interchange being used is very near El Paso Union Station...just west of the station.

Perhaps UP goofed up?  Those engines may get fueled during the three hour scheduled layover between the
junket's arrival and the Sunset Limited's scheduled time (it is now running two hours late) but I can't see
running them twelve miles to the fueling pad when Amtrak could have a fuel truck show up at the station.

My understanding of El Paso connection from ATSF to SP is a track east of the station at Tower 47.  Why would they go via Deming??     Many more miles and inconvenient.

At Deming they would have run around their train to head eastbound.

Along in the late 90s, I detoured on wb #1 via Rincon and Deming because of an SP derailment.   Speed was not too bad, but we were four hours late........

And besides, Boardman is not about to sleep on the train overnight and then sit at El Paso for
many hours waiting for the Sunset, when he could ride ABQ-ELP on BNSF in daytime. This was
arranged long ago and BNSF operating personnel, managers and brass are aboard.

Wouldn't it be nice if a new train were to begin operation on that route?  The Santa Fe RDCs
were a fun ride. But New Mexico would have to fund it and I think that state wants no more
of trains, with the RailRunner being a financial bloodbath and bailing out the Southwest
Chief being another money pit.  I think this is a "nice ride" for Boardman and his guests.

Wait, I am confused.

- The Exhibit train is in Pueblo, CO and that is to stay there for a few days? Event of some sort?

- Then we have the Boardman deluxe excursion that started off attached to the Capitol and then the Southwest Chief. Now it is on its own traveling across the country? And it has nothing to do with the Exhibit Train?

What's the purpose of Boardman's trip? I thought he was doing some sort of employee appreciation tour stop? What's the train's route?

Last I saw it had the following as business cars (not in consist order):

- Heritage sleeper (for crew)
- Viewliner I sleeper - (for business folks and dignitaries I guess)
- Beech Grove (Amtrak Pres. Car)
- Ocean View (the large dome car)
- American View (the Viewliner theater car)

Amazing how Boardman's Deluxe has more sleepers than coaches per say........For example, there's even bedrooms in the Preident's Car. I am surpised they didn't bring the Metroliner Conference Car (9800) along. This would have made it a little more business oriented!!!!

=================================

No way through the cab...it lacks a diaphragm.

It was on Train 85 a few days back, on the first day of service for the last Amtrak ACS-64, the AMTK 670.

By the way, the ACS-64 was the last "AMTRAK Cities Sprinter," the name changed to
"American Cities Sprinter" now that current production is for SEPTA.

PProjected on time departure from San Antonio.  Not much traffic after Sierra Blanca.  They'll be at max track speed, count on it.

Well, that was cutting it close. Crew went on duty at 0230 at Belen. Taxied to Albuquerque and took the train south. Not sure how quickly they got through Belen as there was heavy westbound traffic off the Clovis sub last night. Due to the track layout at Belen trains going to El Paso have to go through the westbound fuel racks (tracks 5 through 8).

Lead unit was the AMTK 145 which is what I showed on the GTB. I believe Matt Rose was on the train.

Any one the ground that can advise how the train accesed  El Paso Union Station ?

When involved 20+years ago for passenger service, told NO way to reach the Station from the Santa Fe.  The old NDM/ATSF connection had long been torn up to put in the bus facility.

Connection exists just west of the El Paso station.  Junction is about 1/3 mile west of the station.

On the satellite view it is just beneath the "TO BNSF YARD" label.

Part of the bus facility appears at the lower right corner.

Being from El Paso (born and raised) everyone is a tad bit off.  The connection track is 1/4 of a mile west of Tower 196 (The crossovers at the west end of the station track) that map is pointing to the Lordsburg Sub main 4 which splits off main 2 at Ice House crossover on the east side of the Rio Grande Bridge. Where the interchange is located is called Globe Mills which about half a mile west of the station past the El Paso rescue mission. BNSF has trackage rights over the UP from their connection there at Globe Mills up the Carrizozo Sub (Golden State Route which branches off at Tower 47) up to Vaughn to meet up with the transcon.

The train went through Las Cruces at 11:36 AM. No trip to Deming. They went in to El Paso depot on the BNSF - UP transfer track.

Thanks for the maps. We used it on an A.O.E. trip in the 90's.
