They have five years to work that out, probably six and a half...

i like that the trainsets will be articulted ... i would like to see the trains equipped with radial steering trucks and intermediate traction motors throughout the train between each atriculated car and not just on the end power units ... the latest TGVs are setup this way ...

Isn't Acela a lot newer than most of their other equipment? Shouldn't that be replaced first?

Don't you think Acela trainsets will become regional trainsets?

I believe the Acela trainsets began service in Dec 2000.  Heck, I've got a truck that's older than that.  Superliners entered service around 1979, Amfleet cars in 75.  P40 started in the early 90s.  A lot of stuff needs replacing.

Nice exterior color scheme.  They used a 1935 PRR dwarf signal to give the go ahead!

Those are the standard Washington Terminal signals--modeled on the B&O's color position lights.

MojaveBill, I concluded they were all passengers with motion sickness.

Congrats, Amtrak on your unique train concept with great efficiency advantages.
However, it seems that you already have a modern, fast train operating on the NEC.

Please tell the Superliner customers when "their" equipment will be refurbished,
and locomotives rebuilt for dependability.

Still waiting for the rest of the Viewliner II's to replace the 60 year old dining car fleet that is now down to 12 and only able to run on 2 routes.

Nothing Else Counts

I mean, these trainsets would make sense if they were upgrading the infrastructure to support true high speed rail, but I doubt that will ever happen in the Northeast.

We don't have the political will to spend money on our passenger rail system.  Here's an example.  Texas DOT is about to propose spending 70 BILLION on "transportation projects" in the next several years.  Every dollar of is going to be used for:  guess what?  Roads.

Negative Amtrak only owns two trainsets they will go back to the Bank that owns them. Maybe they will go back where they came from Canada there talking about electrification.

$2.45B Loan To NEC

The northeast benefits by a replaced Acela that expands capacity and the number of trains, but most of the rest of the country benefits because as Acela moves down to NEC regional trains, that frees up those regional cars to be added to corridors elsewhere.  Will add a lot more capacity and serve a lot more passengers than replacing long distance dining cars.

Ah yes, that recent loan.  And it'll be the third millenium when it's paid back.  LOL!

Yes, but what happens if Amtrak decides the Amfleets are "too old" and "too costly to maintain" and they succumb to the dead line and the scrapper's torch?

I for one am fed up with this too, there's a national system out there, why can't they actually do NEC and national system equally! I hope Wick does that, Claytor and Gunn were the only other 2 who actually did!
