Passenger Trains > Amtrak and the "luggage free" service

I recently made some reservations, and noticed Amtrak's pitch for a "luggage free" service.  It's pitched as a valet which will come to your home, pick up your luggage, golf clubs, steamer trunk, mother-in-law, etc and deliver it any where in the world.  Go on a cruise? We pick up your luggage in your home, and you see it next in your cabin. No dragging it through baggage claim or customs, it would appear.  No need to drag your possessions on a train trip, they'll be waiting for you on the other end of your trip.

Has anyone used this service, and what do you think of it?

You mean they have caught up to what the Railroads offered for many, many years before Amtrak !

SP did this for the original Daylights in the 1930s. Back to the Future!
That said, if it works, what's the problem?

Pricing is by weight for a given type of luggage, and varies according to the delivery time in
business days.  Pickup can be virtually from your door to any destination, whether you
are going to that destination by air, ship or train.

It is virtually certain that the "Luggage Free" service does not go by Amtrak train.  Mention
is made about packing sports equipment in "airline compatible" cases and many services
boast delivery times faster than Amtrak schedules.

This is not an Amtrak service. Either the company, "Luggage Free," is advertising on Amtrak.com, or
there is a "click-through" arrangement where, if a customer clicks the "Luggage Free" link on the
Amtrak page, there is a small payment made to Amtrak if the customer arranges and pays for the
service on that click. That's Internet marketing and it's good that Amtrak's advertising
agency has taken advantage of it.

Various airlines offer a similar service when booking on line.  The luggage carrier is FedEx.
