Cablevision News12 New Jersey August 26, 2016 People in Asbury Park are urging New Jersey Transit officials to keep a late-night train that runs from Manhattan to Asbury Park once the summer ends. During the summer months, NJ Transit runs a line that leaves New York at 1 a.m. and stops in Long Branch at 2:39 a.m. and then arrives in Asbury Park at 2:54 a.m. That train stops running every year by early September. Story, news video and poll: Asbury Park residents push NJ Transit to keep late-night train from Manhattan Date: 08/28/16 08:52 Re: Asbury Park (NJ) residents push to keep late-night train from Author: march_hare Any historical info on past off season services, or is this a new request?
Date: 08/28/16 09:17 Re: Asbury Park (NJ) residents push to keep late-night train from Author: pdt NJT service from manahttan, for the most part, ends at midnight. LIRR service runs all night, and subway lines run all night on a 20 minute headway.
Bars are open in NYC till 4am. Last time i visited NYC, couldnt stay in NJ cause train service ended at midnight....that means leaving wherever u are, at 11pm or so, which is laughable if u r a late night person. The late night scene in NY just gets started after the theaters let out...around 11pm. Wud be nice if there was at least one NEC train, one M&E train between 2am and 4am , at least on sat and sun mornings. Yes, the rest of the country is asleep at these hours. Not NYC. Bars in the theater district and the village are packed from 11pm till 1am. I'm just sayin Date: 08/28/16 09:20 Re: Asbury Park (NJ) residents push to keep late-night train from Author: jp1822 The line has endured a roller coaster of cutbacks and expansions - even in terms of express and local since 2000.
This is line could always benefit from more service. After Labor Day it goes back to a more reduced schedule than in the past. NJT could also run more trains to/from Hoboken on this line, as it once did THROUGH OUT the day, but it seems they've adopted a NYC or bust motto.... And boy are the branch lines needed that once existed. NJ is in grid lock to the Shore more than just the summer, including SOUTH of Long Branch where the catenary ends. NJT has tried for a slow death south of Lomg Branch but they have not succeeded. Disclaimer - I used to commute on this line at one time. It was always a year round train. NJT made some sneak attack, illegal, service cuts last fall. They have a right to tweak schedules and adjust frequencies according to ridership, but being the last train of the night, the next one not being for 5 hours, they broke the law in not announcing it in hearings. Even added a new 12.30am bus from PABT.
Amazing what enraged towns and county freeloaders can do... Posted from Android Date: 08/28/16 18:41 Re: Asbury Park (NJ) residents push to keep late-night train from Author: bradleymckay Has "The Boss" given his opinion yet?

I always thought California cities had a great bar scene, but that paled compared to New York. Heading home after "last call" as dawn approached was a new experience for me. I can see a very late night train being of use, provided it services the right communities. PATH trains at 3 and 4 in the morning from NYC to Hoboken and Jersey City occasionally run full to standing room. The recent decision to restrict overnight service for needed repairs created a lot of angst. The NYCT overnite standard is 20 minute intervals. |
