A big forest fire started near Leavenworth over the weekend.  I don't know if that's the cause, but it seems likely.

Probably the Suncest Fire just outside of Leavenworth in the hills above the Wenatchee River and BNSF main.  Attached picture is of the fire about 1/2 hour after it broke out as I was driving on US 2 out of town.  The southern boundary of the fire is roughly parallel to the tracks but it appears as if the winds are pushing it more NE.

8(29) got delayed TWICE by the same BNSF train west of Leavenworth
with STATE OF GOOD REPAIR issues. Total approx. 5 hr 20 min.

The S-SEPLPC1-29 had locomotive problems at Scenic mp 1710

The S-SEPLPC1-29 went into emergency at East Berne mp 1698.5

For reference, Leavenworth is 1672.2.

Guess that could be a reason also. At least #8 was probably sitting in some nice mountain scenery somewhere West of the tunnel

The timing of the BNSF problems would seem to indicate that they were the whole cause of the delay to 8(29).

The BNSF crew may also have gone dead on Hours of Service during the mechanical delay.

Too bad they couldn't have made the siding at Scenic and just stayed there.  So, what happens if a crew goes dead on hours as they are going through the Cascade Tunnel with it's MPH restriction and time it takes to go through (1/2 hour?)?
