North Carolina Department of Transportation RNCX 1810 -- 5 Photos

She is the City of Greensboro, a F59PH built in Nov. 1988 as GO Transit 529.  Here are some photos of her at work.

1. The afternoon Piedmont (Train 76) having just departed the Charlotte, NC station on October 12, 2012

Nice Marty!  We could only wish that more states could do something like North Carolina.
Not sure about that N C and star on the engine nose though!

The gold N and C and the white star are taken straight from the NC state flag. But I agree with you, it doesn't look good.

Having ridden these trains they put Amtrak to shame.

They are beautiful cars, nicely appointed.

The trains are maintained in Raleigh by Herzog, I believe, and the train crews are regular Amtrak train and engine crews out of the Charlotte, NC, crew base.

There used to be a private-contractor food service, but they couldn't make a profit on the service, so NCDOT decided to install vending machines in the lounge cars, and provides complimentary water and a light snack, crackers or something, I've been told.  The website On Track On Line says that the lounge cars were former Amtrak 3100-series lounge cars and the coaches were former KCS and UP.

And another reason why it's so hard to sustain a buikding of new passenger cars in the US.
