Two NJT trains at Elizabeth
Author: toledopatch

Two westbound trains during the early part of the evening rush, about a minute apart. The first is on Track 3, with an electric motor leading 10 bilevels. The second is a 10-car MU set on Track 4. Neither stops.

Which one is going to Jersey Avenue, and which one is going to Trenton? If they're both on time, the first one is going to Jersey Avenue, but I'm not going to assume that, especially because the first train is on Track 3.

Arrow is more apt to be the Jersey Avenue train, as is whatever is on the local track.

OK, both of those criteria favor the train on Track 4.

8 or 9 rush hour trains terminate and originate at Jersey Av. But they can only layup 3 overnite or over the weekend. Those are almost always Arrows.

Yes, quite a few trains originate at NYP and go to Long Branch. They're in the 32xx series.  Most are multilevels.

Most mid-day weekday NEC trains are Comets.
Arrows are mostly rush hours now, and they can't run south of South Amboy on the Coast Line.

the turn back trains from NY (3720, 3722) are often single deck, and occasionally multi-levels.  Trains which overnight there are usually MU
