Hoosier State and Veteran Hiawatha
Author: Mastadon

I decided to head downtown this morning to catch the Hoosier State arrival despite knowing the leader was the Iowa Pacific GP40FH-2 still "painted" for previous operator NJ Transit. I also was downtown to bag Amtrak's Hiawatha with the newly painted Veterans F40 Cabbage Car. I wasn't disappointed and after bagging the moves, I headed home for some football.

Enjoy.

1- Amtrak 851 was reversing into Chicago Union Station to await its evening departure for Indianapolis as train 850 in a view from 18th Street.
2- Amtrak 334 rolls through CP Morgan one mile out of Union Station with the Veteran Cabbage Car leading.
3- Amtrak 335 rolls across Racine Avenue on the way to Milwaukee with the Veteran Cabbage Car trailing.

Which train would you rather ride?  No contest.

Looks like the H.S. grew by another coach.

Sleeper deadheading to the Indy coach yard.  Still four cars for now.

Ever thought of selling sleeper space ? Maybe students or business types would like a private study room or conference room like the Pennsy Congressional once had.

The only thing lacking is a good public image on the front on the HS

So we actually did that traveling from Indy to Chicago on the Cardinal 11 days ago. We opted for a roomette instead of Business Class. The total fare was $12.00 less for the two of us than the H.S. going down. And there was another major blessing - the waste tank in the Viewliner sleeper was not full so we had a working potty unlike most of the rest of the train. For the record the $12.00 extra for the H.S. was well worth it - dome car plus good food and drinks (included).
