Like the Amtrak F40s, these units don't have auxilary HEP so the prime mover is always running at high revs - they're called "screamers." Many of these units have recently been retired but some may still be roaming around the system. The 1029 and 1051 are class F40PH-2C and are longer than the screamers, featuring separate HEP power units allowing prime mover to operate more quietly. The 1029 is one of a batch of 9 built new by M-K in 1991 while the 1051 was built by EMD in 1987. Most of the F40PH-2C units are still in everyday use on MBTA.

Nope, all put into storage late last year. 1013 survived a little bit longer by going on lease to the Grafton & Upton for Polar Express use, but once she was returned she went into storage as well. |
