50th Anniversary New River Train - Oct 16, 2016
Author: jberlin

Congratulations to the Collis P. Huntington Chapter NRHS for fifty years of successful New River Train Excursions!  This year's train consists of three locomotives and thirty (yes, thirty!) passenger cars.  The photos were snapped on the return trip to Huntington from Hinton WV on October 16, 2016.  Passenger cars are: (L to R) Dearing, Silver Lariat, Moonlight Dome, Berlin.

Very nice photos, reminds me of the good-ole-days when the Baltimore Chapter NRHS used to operate "Autumn Glory Specials" with the B&O.  CSX wants nothing to do with trips up here in Maryland unfortunately.  Baltimore is the city where railroading began with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad back in 1827. we still have the original route of the B&O between Mt. Clare Station and Ellicott City (which was Ellicott Mills back then) and now we are an historic city that has no rail excursions at all.  Sad for sure.

Amazing that there is very little colour on the trees. I am riding this coming Saturday hope for a little more.

This has happened in the past, requiring a third weekend so that repeat customers who missed the colors can come back and try again.

Quite interesting that it was worth it for them to bring the Silver Lariet all the way out from CA for these trips.  Probably speaks for the very high demand for premium seats on most excursions.  Perhaps the Lariet was in the midwest for some other trips and thus the deadhead cost to Huntington was not too high.
