The long stalled Bergen county section of the Hudson Bergen Light Rail might be partly funded with proceeds of the gas tax increase, say several Bergen county legislators. The plan to extend the electric line from its current 69th street terminus in North Bergen north into southern Bergen county has been discussed for years.

Several Democratic legislators held a press conference today to reiterate they voted for the wildly unpopular tax increase in the hope they would qualify for the HBLR extension. One commenter notes that the prime sponsor of HBLR extension is a senior officer of the construction company which gets a large share of state construction work.  He also played an important role in creating the new Westmont train station in the midst of a huge residential and retail development. And, an expansion of the Teterboro rail station to accommodate a giant retail project alongside.  The guy can get stuff done, that's for sure.


We hope the money won't be wasted or stolen, maybe something good will come of this...

 

Such a no brainer, existing right of way, big help to alleviate bridge traffic, one mayor fighting it, Tenafly, but at least bring it to Englewood.

I think there is a parallel effort for River Line-like service for Gloucester County. Both halves of the state have to get something.
