Passenger Trains > Climbing to Tacoma

Sound Transit Sounder train leaves the BNSF at Reservation (or is it TR Junction) to reach the station (Freighthouse Square) via old Milwaukee Road tracks.

That's a hell of a grade. Did Milwaukee Road passenger trains use that ?

No; it was built for Sound Transit.

I forgot to mention that ALL passenger service (Amtrak and Sounder) will use this track and the new Amtrak station that is being built at Freighthouse Square..  I'll be there to photo the first Starlight on this route.

When does the change for Amtrak trains take place, I personally am going to miss the old route along the shore of Puget Sound and passing beneath the Tacoma Narrows bridge! That was a great view.

I hope others are out there at various places along the line to record the first train...and the first Starlight. Opening day will be the result of a 24 year long battle.
