Thoughts for the Engineer.

Amtrak's Tweet: "Service btwn Wilmington/Newark is temporarily suspended due to a trespasser incident. Customers may experience delays in both directions."

The "Newark" is Newark, DE. SEPTA service is suspended south of Wilmington to Newark.

It's interesting how little information Amtrak provides on Twitter. Before this announcement, there had been no Amtrak NEC tweets since Nov 14. For this incident, Amtrak issued 1 Tweet and isn't answering anyone's questions about it.

The local news radio (WDEL Wilmingotn, DE)  reports the "tresspasser", yes they used that word, was fatal.  The strike was about 3:30 PM.  The train was 1194 (Thanksgiving extra) Washingto to Boston.  All tracks were shut down.  About 1h20 min later a single track of the 3 was open. 

One "positive" in all this...

At least somebody at Amtrak was updating the NEC Twitter feed on a timely basis this time!

That stopped happening way back in the "Northeast Joe" Boardman regime.

Bad day and bad location.

 

They did a spot on CBS news, reporting @ 1 hour delays on the NEC.

One hour late was optimistic.  Some trains were about three hours late.

Just about the worst day of the year...
