The CP Holiday Train's displaying our flag backwards. The correct etiquette is:

When displaying the flag, DO the following:

    1. Display the U.S. flag from sunrise to sunset on buildings and stationary flagstaffs in the open. When a patriotic effect is desired the flag may be displayed 24-hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
    2. When placed on a single staff or lanyard, place the U.S. Flag above all other flags.
    3. When flags are displayed in a row, the U.S. flag goes to the observer’s left. Flags of other nations are flown at same height. State and local flags are traditionally flown lower.
    4. When used during a marching ceremony or parade with other flags, the U.S. Flag will be to the observer’s left.

Italics and bolding are mine ...

This issue has been pointed out many time but they never seem to get it right except the first year 2001 and in 2006 - other 13 years are backwards.

Fritz, it's a Canadian train that was put together in Canada. I'm just happy they're actually flying the flag.

At each stop donations are collected for the local food banks and pantrys that stay in those communities....weather in the US or Canada. Isn't that what its all about?

My, my, my ... getting touchy now, aren't we?

I made NO statement about the worthiness of the train's purpose, but it's obviously for a good cause. Good on 'em !!

CPs a Canadian-owned railroad operating a train in the United States, probably with an American crew.

There's a correct way to do any particular thing -- all  other ways to do that thing are incorrect.

Properly displaying OUR flag in OUR country should NOT difficult to do -- but with a 50-50 chance to do it right, CP did it wrong.

There's an  adage that  says you only get one chance to make a good first impression. CP had its chance ...

Merry Chriatmas to ALL !!

Maybe it’s just pay-back for the time your US Marine Corps flew OUR flag upside down in a very public display during a sports event in the US.

Now back to the real purpose of this train......and a Happy “Holiday Season" to all!

Here's a link to the US Train** while it's still in Canada at Delson, Quebec before even crossing the US Border to begins it's tourney in New York State.

In photo #2 the US Flag is properly displayed on the left as you say.

Perhaps it's the local crews that place the flags before arriving in a community? Perhaps it was the local US crew in Lannark Ill that placed the flag in the incorrect position?

(**There are two train. One travels through the Canada and one that travel through NY crosses through Quebec and Ontario before entering the US again in Michigan. The two trains in Saskatchewan)
