Passenger Trains > Winter Park Express; 161 on East End Jan 14Date: 01/15/17 04:22 Winter Park Express; 161 on East End Jan 14 Author: cozephyr Amtrak Winter Park Express had all the units on the east end on for return trip Winter Park Ski Resort to Denver, CO, January 14, 2017. Amtrak 161 and 165 were ahead of 406 non-powered control unit. Train was 90-minutes late at Rollinsville, Colorado, about 6:20 PM on UP's Moffat Tunnel line. Train was scheduled to depart Winter Park Ski Resort at 4:30 PM but didn't depart until 5:49 PM.

There was a stalled eastbound coal train at Leyden that forced DS 86 to run at least one westbound up the siding around. The original crew went dead on the law and was not replaced until after the Winter Park train went by.

Seems safer, keep all the reserve braking in front of the train on a mountain grade. Seems to me this should be SOP. - - JLH

With Locomotives on both ends of the Consist And not use the Cabbage at all. I kinda wondered how would a train will do. In push mode on a route like this. Since there arent too many Passenger Trains. With more amtk units here at least mid week the CZ has a protection unit |
