The late-train data is mildly interesting, but really kind of meaningless without any information about the reason for the delay.

Instead of just giving the numbers, include a brief explanation of why.

Something like "lost time due to pedestrian strike in Minot," or "delayed by snow in Portland," or "lost six hours due to locomotive failure near Martinez."

If you don't know the reason, say the cause is unknown.

I think compiling the reason for the delays would make this daily feature more interesting to read, and reduce the number of inquiries surrounding the purpose of these posts.

It's interesting to read.

The title makes it clear what the subject matter covers. People who read it day after day, and complain about it every day, however...

It's just sad to see someone concentrating so hard on pessimism when there are plenty of people who are out there working hard to get these trains back on time and making other trains on time yet this person fails to mention one word of any of their hard efforts. Hate is a sad thing. Not worth my time to concentrate on people filled with hate.

Seems to be the "mission" of the Passenger Train board. To bad mouth Amtrak at every opportunity.

Some people on this site deliberately post false and misleading information just to anger others. In this case, misleading posts due to lack of information. I don't have time to give to people intentionally trying to anger others. It's sad some want to spread their anger to others.

Is it wrong for Amtrak supporters to demand better efficiency, on-time performance and service?

Why do German trains (and other European trains) generally run on time?

Ever Wonder Why Japanese Trains Aren't Late?

There's plenty of information on Google about "most punctual trains in the world".

Of course it's not wrong to desire better on-time performance.

But it would be helpful to know why particular trains are late. Just noting a train arrived later than scheduled isn't particularly helpful.

For example, was it Amtrak's fault, the host railroad, weather, or another cause?

I failed to notice where there is any "hate" in these posts.
Unless facts not in line with your point of view should be considered hate.
Perhaps TO should have a new discussion board.
It could be called the "Safe Zone".   Only posts containing flowery prose
about the joys of riding Amtrak would be allowed.

When I was with Amtrak there were many, many employees there who dedicated
their hearts and souls to making it work.  Sooner or later most of them were crushed
by upper management. Ignoring the sad state of the system outside the NEC is an
insult to those people.

The art of constructive criticism is often seen as "hate".

Not limited to railroads. It's part of the issue with making healthcare better, resolving ferocious black on black violence, making opportunities available to people. Willing to work for them, etc.

People get upset...
