Passenger Trains > Extra cars on the CL

I noticed some added cars to the CL today on the sand patch camera. What is the car attached to the loco's? Haven't seen that type before and curious what it is. Thanks in advance.

That's the Super Dome "Ocean View.". #10031. nee Great Northern 1391, "Ocean View" - Budd 1955

Minor correction: It's a "Great Dome." Amtrak doesn't have any ex. Milwaukee Road "Super Domes." Totally different design and different builders. 

Actually that is "Great" dome as in "Great" Northern, who originally built the car for the Empire Builder in the same year I was born.  And she certainly is looking better than I do!

The Super Dome was a Milwaukee brand that was competing in the same Chicago - Seattle market with the Olympian Hiawatha.


I note the CL also had a couple extra Superliner sleepers on the head end.  Perhaps for handling some inaugural traffic?

What does CL stand for?

The Capitol Limited.

CL = Capitol Limited   Amtrak Trains 29 and 30.  At least that what I think it refers to.

Yep thats it.  P029 and P030 on CSX, on NS just 29 and 30.  Ive heard em called this way ont he tree times I rode the Cap out of Toledo, Ohio.

To some of us Californians, the first thing that comes to mind when CL is posted with no clarification is [former Southern Pacific] Coast Line.  Unlike the Eastern board, "Passenger Trains" covers the whole country. 
 

I apologize for my use of "CL", I should know better.  As a westerner, I would not have known what CL meant a few weeks ago myself.  It is only because I have been planning my first trip on the Capitol Limited in early February that I have been closely following it for the last few weeks that it sort of became second nature to me!

mybe it can be used on the Hoosier  if the other one is sidelined.

Why would Amtrak help IP?

Capital Limited (Tr 29/30) is the only Amtrak train visible from the sandpatch camera, which was identified as the source in the initial posting.
Similarly, the Coast Starlight is only Amtrak train visible from dunsmuir camera.
