Passenger Trains > Winter Park Express last Run March 26

Last day Sunday, March 26, 2017 for 2017 Amtrak's Winter Park Express (January 7 - March 26) with Amtrak 11 on the point.  Train left Denver Union Station, Denver, Colorado, on time at 7 AM.  She was delayed at Union Pacific's Utah Junction by train on the diamond.

Nice pictures, thanks, and quite a successful season of training to/from Denver and WP...

So what happened to serving the mountain during spring skiing? 
Did the WPE passenger loads drop off all of a sudden? 
There's still three weeks to go before the end of the season for "inbounds" skiing and boarding! 
Tons of people heading west for the great snow and warm weather skiing.

Today's snow conditions can't get any better than this:
Winter Park Resort: Open   Snow: Powder    
Open trails   135/143    Open lifts   23/25

Amtrak needs the equipment to fill out Spring travel demand.  That was the original date advertised for the service.

Will this equipment be attached to #6 to Chicago in the next couple days?

a wip host said 500 people were boarding  back, at least 100 people spent the night, so perhaps 400 wb this am.

he also said #6 was right behind ... it wasn't

see the meat wagon arrive in pic 1 , they used to throw casts on and throw them in the bagg car for their return trip

I skied WP both Saturday and Sunday. Crowd on the mountain were WAY down. No lift lines at all, no crowds on the slopes. Once it gets warm in Denver, people's thoughs turn to golf and boating. Also, experienced skiers know to study the weather carefully and ignore the resorts' blurbs. When it's in the 40s on the mountain, what they call "powder" we call "mashed potatoes." As I type, my quads are still sore from trying to carve wet cement. Still, a bad day skiing is better than a good day at work.

Amtrak Winter Park Express cars and locomotives were expected to be picked up at Denver, CO, by late running Amtrak train 6 early Tuesday, March 28, 2017.  Amtrak train 6 was over 6-hours late departing Denver early March 28, 2017 (train was due out at 7:00 PM March 27, 2017).
