Lord of the flies
Author: DavidP

P42DC number 47 is on the head end of the eastbound Sunset seen here in Houston today. Clearly it encountered a swarm of flies passing through Texas. A closer look (second photo) shows it also got best of an unfortunate buzzard. We were more than an hour late out of San Antonio this morning, forty minutes down into Houston, but just backed out right on time.

Sorry about the sideways photos...tried turning them in my phone library but TO just seems to want to post them that way.

Dave

Those locomotives look like this sometimes in FL too. I remember catching the nb Meteor @ Kissimmee and the front end was covered in black flies. Eesh.

The engine got hit by the bees on the Pacific Surfliner train 579 between Solana Beach and Oceanside three weeks ago.
