Carol,

From this page: http://www.ble-t.org/about.asp

All the Local Chairmen on a particular railroad constitute the BLET General Committee of Adjustment on that system; this General Committee is autonomous and responsible for negotiating, making, interpreting and enforcing contracts between engineers and their railroad. Larger railroad systems may have more than one General Committee and General Chairman.

In the most basic terms, GCAs deal with collective bargaining issues with a specific carrier, while the Legislative committees deal with regulatory issues.

I thought that Mark was going to retire soon and therefore not run again, oh well. Guess being retired myself doesn't matter that much any more. I just remember my Division had some issues with Brother Kenny.

One General Chairman, several regional chairman.

Enforcing contracts would include items like the reported use of an RFE to operate trains out of Indianapolis on several occasions?

Many people have mentioned "minor issues" which do not rise to a level sufficient to cause a strike / walkout. Things like sitting on claims and grievances, etc for months at a time. Can these items be added to a local agreement or national agreement with a carrier?

NS has three full General Committees, each with its own General Chairman. While Amtrak may have only one, larger RR's do often have more than one.

OK. Could this be an effect of the mergers, N&W + Southern + part of Conjob?
