Passenger Trains > Amtrak conductor's condition upgraded

Amtrak conductor Michael Case, who was shot at Naperville IL by a disgruntled passenger,
has had his condition upgraded from critical to seriouis.

The gunshot wound from a .38 caliber revolver damaged his pangreas and small intestine
but many major blood vessels in the area were not injured, which should help his
recovery.

Suspect Edward Klein remains in custody, charged with attempted murder. Bail is set
at $1.5 million. Arraignment and plea are scheduled for June 12.

Glad to hear that his condition has improved.

He's really lucky to be alive. I hope he pulls through. What a senseless act.

Is there an "approved"and/ or official fund set up to help with expenses, which can be crushing? There was concern expressed in an earlier post about possible fake funds. Anyone know? d

The prior-mentioned funding media are not "fake."

Amtrak is offering nothing other than what is provided in the contract with the union. As for his wages...he can mark off, unpaid.

no one should go to work having to worry about getting shot ... i hope Mr Case makes a full recovery ... whether he comes back to work or stays out on disability is something he'll have to make a decision at a later date after his recovery ... back in 1999 i had a almost fatal case of pancreatis ... you csn live without a lot of organs but the pancreas isn't one of them ... no working pancreas and you die ... there is no grey area with that ...

Thank the Lord that the Conductor is doing better.

After a guy shot a hole in the roof of a coach on the LSL some yeas ago, I thought that crews on that train could use some protection. Like a Kevlar vest under their white uniform shirt. I have seen some pretty tough characters on LSL and have always wondered if they were packing heat.
